چکیده

Agrowing body of evidence suggests that endothelial dysfunction is associated with cardiovascular events. Endothelial dysfunction can be regarded as a syndrome that exhibits systemic manifestations associated with significant morbidity and mortality. The concept of endothelial dysfunction should be extended beyond the conduit vessels into the vascular wall and even to the bone marrow and the progenitor endothelial cells. The present review is focused on the potential underlying mechanism by which endothelial dysfunction may contribute to cardiovascular events. The assessment of endothelial function may emerge as an integral adjuvant test for evaluation of the vulnerable patients at risk for future cardiovascular events.

Metoprolol improves endothelial function in patients with cardiac syndrome X

Endothelial dysfunction which is manifested by the loss of nitric oxide bioavailability, is an increasingly recognized cause of cardiac syndrome X (CSX) and beta blockers are used for the treatment of this syndrome. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate effects of metoprolol, as a beta blocker, on endothelial function in CSX patients. The study included 25 CSX patients (20 female/ 5 ma...

Long-term follow-up of patients with mild coronary artery disease and endothelial dysfunction.

BACKGROUND Coronary endothelial dysfunction is characterized by vasoconstrictive response to the endothelium-dependent vasodilator acetylcholine. Although endothelial dysfunction is considered an early phase of coronary atherosclerosis, there is a paucity of information regarding the outcome of these patients. Thus, this study was designed to evaluate the outcome of patients with mild coronary ...

Hypercholesterolemia and hypertension have synergistic deleterious effects on coronary endothelial function.

OBJECTIVE Coronary endothelial dysfunction is associated with an increase in cardiac events. Hypercholesterolemia (HC) and hypertension (HT) are both associated with endothelial dysfunction, and their coexistence is associated with an increased incidence of cardiac events in epidemiological studies. However, pathogenic mechanisms are poorly understood. Here we studied the effects of coexisting ...

Endothelins. Myocardial actions of a new class of cytokines.

There is growing evidence to support the existence of a dynamic interaction in vivo between cardiac myocytes and adjacent microvascular endothelial cells in the regulation of both cardiac myocyte and possibly endothelial cell phenotype and function. Endothelins may be only one of several endogenous cytokines or autocoids that are released by the cardiac microvascular and/or endocardial endothel...
